Why I like open standards
Open source software is great for security because all of the world can see it. Holes or backdoors are exposed and there are enough people to contribute to fixing it. I really like joomla and drupal for that reason. What is the old CMS adage? There are CMS systems that people complain about and ones that nobody uses.
Open source security is better because if you can see the source then it can be tailored according to your needs.. This can of course be counter-argued with the attacker would also see the source. Let’s not get paranoid! It is hard for the men in black to copy live passwords during your VoIP calls, it would require taking every packet and tracking it, etc. It falls under conspiracy theory to think anyone would have the time, skill or interest in doing that.
